When you bought your home, likely the first thing you did was get the keys from your Realtor, head over to your new house, and start moving in.
But in the hubbub of getting moved, did you think to rekey the locks in your home?
Of all the things you have to do when you buy a new house, having the locks rekeyed is one of the most important, yet some new homeowner’s never get around to it.
Sure, it’s nice to think that no one would use their old keys to your new house to rob you blind, but it has happened before, and it will happen again. That’s why having your locks rekeyed is one thing you need to do now, not later!
But having your locks rekeyed isn’t the only thing you need to have done to your locks.
As Ray Clark from C&C Lock and Key explains in the video above, the locks around your house also need regular maintenance.
If you keep your locks clean and lubricated, it will reduce the likelihood that the lock becomes difficult to use.
On more than one occasion, I’ve used WD-40 to try and loosen up difficult locks, but as Ray explains, that’s a big no-no!
Why?
Many lubricants like WD-40 just attract more dirt, so if you spray it inside your locks, guess where all the dust in the air is going to go? Yep…inside the lock!
